Date 2012.05.22

▶ Winning the SP2T class in one of the world's top endurance races demonstrates the company's superior tire technology

Kumho Tires-sponsored Pugeot RCZ Nokia Team has won its class in Nürburgring 24h held on May 19-20, a close endurance race in the SP2T class for special cars up to 1,600 cc capacity.

Nürburgring 24h in Germany is one of the world's top three 24-hour endurance races along with the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France and the Spa 24 Hours in Belgium. The Nürburgring 24h race is run on the full 25.4 km on road course per circuit round the clock to determine a final winner. Winning the race calls for battle-hardened drivers and a reliable car like competitive tires.

As its reputation tells us, the world's toughest endurance race is joined by about 200 production cars every year and attracts more than 250,000 spectators. Audi, BMW and other major finished-car makers and auto part suppliers attend the automotive technology competition.

In the SP2T class (1,600cc), seven cars competed very closely this year. Two Pugeot RCZ Nokia Team cars equipped with Kumho Tires' products ranked first and third, elbowing out other cars equipped with tires provided by well-known Korean and foreign brands, including Hankook Tire, Michelin, and Dunlop.

"The core of motor sports lies in rolling tires in ground contact. Winning the Nürburgring 24h race demonstrates Kumho Tires' technology," said Steve Thompson, European Motorsport Manager for Kumho Tires.

Since early 2000s, Kumho Tires has participated in various motor race events, including the F3 Euro Series and the F3 Masters. The company holds its place in motor sports as it was recently named as official tire sponsor for the Auto GP World Series, raising expectations about its entry into the F1 race. Kumho Tires participated in Nürburgring 24h in 2011 for the first time to win the semi-pro D1T class.
